Earlier this year we learned that Nintendo had pulled in Xenosaga and Baiten Kaitos developer Monolith Software as a second party developer. Then we heard in September that Nintendo had registered several trademarks, and something called "Soma Bringer" was one of them. Put the two together and you have the next Nintendo DS RPG.
1UP has some details from Famitsu on the action RPG:Players select from one of seven characters, fighting against enemies called "The Visitors." You can assign different attacks onto the four buttons to use strategically during battle. As you gain experience points, you can distribute them onto your stats and combining abilities will also create new ones. Plus, Up to three players can join the game for some co-op play through the DS Wi-Fi feature. Nintendo did a smart thing by roping in Monolith Soft, and it looks like the acquisition is already paying off. The DS could use a deep, quality RPG, and it just so happens that this is Monolith's strong point. Let's hope we hear more on this Japanese 2008 release soon.
Check out the Famitsu scans after the jump.
